Curriculum mapping is the process that allows assessments, curriculum and instruction to be aligned thematically. It is a technique that allows teachers to explore what is taught, when it is taught and how it is taught.
The process allows curriculum to be aligned vertically and horizontally so that there are no gaps in a student’s learning. The mapping process helps teachers align their lessons to state standards and assists in helping teachers write interdisciplinary units.
Mapping is a living document that fosters educational conversations and that requires continued work and reflection.
